Don Bishop Executive Editor/Associate Publisher
Don Bishop joined Biby Publishing LLC in 2004. Long a familiar face and voice in telecom journalism, Bishop helped launch several new magazines during his 20 years with Wiesner Publishing and Primedia Business Information. He served over time as technical editor, managing editor, chief editor and editorial director for magazines serving the wireless telecommunications, cable television and electronics manufacturing industries. Bishop has written hundreds of articles, news stories, commentaries and other items for publication in a dozen magazines. He specializes in assembling teams of contributing writers across a broad range of expertise. Bishop's entrepreneurial background in property management is particularly appropriate for covering site management and infrastructure acquisition. Additionally, he has broad experience with broadcast engineering and facilities management, having been the co-owner and general manager of a radio station and the CEO of a broadcasting consulting-engineering practice. He has also worked as an announcer, chief engineer and programming director. Bishop is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Radio Relay League and the Quarter Century Wireless Association. Richard P. Biby, P.E. Publisher/CEO
Richard P. Biby established Biby Publishing LLC in 2004, and chose AGL (Above Ground Level) magazine as his first project. An industry veteran, Biby possesses an intimate knowledge of telecommunications systems and the infrastructure marketplace. Biby has been a frequent commentator in the telecommunications field and has first-hand experience as a successful entrepreneur creating new companies. His affection for radio technology and his desire to see a higher quality of editorial excellence in related trade publications are the engines driving AGL. Biby has owned communication sites and radio stations, has appeared in many zoning-application hearings, and has provided professional engineering services to the siting industry for many years. Biby has been the founder of two companies, Biby Engineering Services PC, and SiteSafe LLC. In addition to leading these two firms, he has served as Chief Technology Officer for Crown Castle International Corp. He has enjoyed active participation in professional industry associations and standards-and-practices bodies (including AFCCE, APCO, TIA, IEEE and PCIA) and governmental advisory committees for the FCC. J. Sharpe Smith. Contributing Editor
J. Sharpe Smith joined AGL in 2007 as contributing editor to the magazine and as editor of the AGL Bulletin email newsletter. He has 18 years of experience writing about the wireless industry. He has edited newsletters on industrial communications, the cellular industry and long distance telephone services for Phillips Publishing, now Access Intelligence. He founded and edited the Wireless Journal for CTIA and then took over as editor of Telecom Exchange magazine for the Industrial Telecommunications Association. Over the course of 13 years, ITA became the Enterprise Wireless Alliance and the publication morphed into Enterprise Wireless magazine. Additionally, he has developed programming for EWA's wireless conferences. He is a Fellow of the Radio Club of America and a member of the Society of Professional Journalists. Scott Dolash. Art Director
Scott Dolash joined the AGL staff in January 2005 after working as a freelance designer for Biby Publishing prior to the magazine’s launch. Dolash directs most of the company's design projects and continues hands-on design work. His background as a professional artist for 20 years includes four years at Primedia/Intertec Publishing (now Penton Media). He has served as art director for three national trade magazines and an international trade magazine, and as a designer for a regional newsstand magazine. Dolash has served as designer, creative director and project manager for various companies and clients within the Kansas City area. He is a board member for Big Picture Marketing in Topeka, Kansas and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University. Dolash may be contacted at sdolash@agl-mag.com.
Mercy Contreras. Director of Sales
Mercy has been involved in publishing and the communications industry for over 30 years. Mercy holds the position of executive director for the Communications Marketing Association and is a president emeritus of The Radio Club of America (RCA). She was publisher of MRT for 20 years and has been publisher of leading magazines in the communications industry, including RF Design and Cellular Business. Phil Cook. Advertising Manager
A 30-year veteran in the publishing industry, Phil has served as publisher of several magazines in the wireless and telecommunications industry. He was co-founder of the trade show which is now known as the IWCE. He was also the co-founder of Mobile Radio Technology (MRT) magazine. He later founded another magazine in the land mobile industry and then worked on a wide variety of other technology publications.
